Yet far I have done as much online research as is available on the music culture of the pub, which accumulates to a grand total of zero. I will keep looking, but I am not too hopeful. So, instead, I will talk about my research that I did last Thursday night when I attended open mic night. In the days leading up to the open mic night, I spent some time just sitting in the pub and taking in the ambient music that played over the loud speakers. From this time of sitting and listening, I realized that mostly what plays is popular radio stations, particularly 102.1 the edge. This ambient music sets the mood of the pub: easy going, yet party oriented.
When the open mic night started, the music became less ambient and more focal. I will go into more detail in the paper. I would post a link to my performance last year at the pub, but the only copy of it that I have is over facebook, so I don't think it will work unless you are friends with me over facebook. But I'll post it anyway!
